Traps are not always the first muscles that guys want to train but once you have those pecs and great delts biceps and triceps you need the traps to give the ultimate look and to put the body in proportion.
LOCATION OF THE TRAPS
The Traps are a diamond shape muscle that spans a large area of the back, neck and shoulders, starting at the base of the skull and going down the outside of the neck.
FUNCTION OF THE TRAPS
The function of the Traps is to move the shoulder blade (Scapula) and support the arms. Also the neck is affected by the traps for example, when the traps are tightened, this can stop the neck turning as freely. Sitting for long periods at a desk or cycling at length can tighten the traps and also shorten them and will eventually cause pain.
Stretching the traps will ease the pain in the neck and shoulder.
