Our core is the largest part of our body but arms, abs, shoulders or whatever we want to enhance when working out always seem to be favourite and our torso or core is neglected.
The torso which is where the core muscles are, is involved in any movement of the body from bending down to feeding the dog to doing extreme workouts.
There are many muscles in the core as well as the abdominal muscles and these stabilize the spine and pelvis.
Having good core strength will not only help performance in all sports but will help to reduce injury, simply by having more agility and balance.
Having good core strength can help to reduce back injuries, avoid lower back pain and strain on the spine by:
- Being able to transfer weight more easily
- Being able to generate more power
- Having more control and stability
- The distribution of stress when doing resistance training is distributed more evenly.
All powerful movements start from the inside out so whenever you move your arms or legs, the stronger and more stable your core is, the more power and transference of energy you will experience.
There are many work out routines that include core strength exercises incorporated in the routine so choosing those is obviously more beneficial to overall fitness.
An exercise ball or swiss ball is very popular within a work out routine for stabilisation of the core. Even standing on one leg will improve stabilisation.
